Report of the 3rd ASNOS Meeting

Report of the INOS 2006, the 3rd ASNOS Meeting and the 44th Japanese Neuro-ophthalmology Society Annual Meeting in Tokyo

The International Neuro-ophthalmology Society (INOS) meeting was held during Novermber 29 to December 2, 2006 in Tokyo jointly with the 3rd ASNOS and the 44th JANOS annual meetings.
The Meetings took place at the Zojoji Temple in Tokyo, well known touristic landmark of the city as the family temple of the Tokugawa Shogunate.
A total of 610 participants from 31 countries, including honorary meeting guests, Drs.W.F.Hoyt, T.R.Hedges Jr. (USA), and W.S.Foulds (UK) making it the largest meeting in the history of INOS. We were also proud to receive more than 50 colleagues from Asian countries.

New information from both the clinical neuro-ophthalmology field, as well as from the fundamental neurosciences area was presented at 15 different symposiums, among which the highlight being The Tatsuji Inoue Symposium (named for the 7th director of the Inouye Eye Hospital and the first person to document and report occipital visual mapping) which dealt with the history and current concept of visual recognition.
A total of 226 original clinical and scientific papers were also presented during the oral and the poster sessions.

A variety of social events were offered during the meetings period and participants were able to experience Japanese cultural activities including tea ceremony, flower arrangement, kimono, and Japanese traditional music and dance.

In conclusion, the meetings had a great success not only for the creative and constructive discussions, but also for the wonderful memories for all of the attendees in the years to come.
